If you are wondering if Reversible Transformers exist, they certainly do!  A particular type of reversible transformer is a step up transformer which is also reversible to step down voltage.  Reversible Transformers are single phase transformers ( at least 1 kva and larger) which have the ability to connect to step up or step down voltages.  Transformers less than 1 kava should not be reversed because of voltage drops and the resulting, less than desired, output voltage.  

Reversible Transformers are generally constructed with an insulated coil wound around a core.  Voltage charge is dependent upon the number of turns (or times) the coil is wrapped around the core.  If the primary has fewer turns than the secondary, the voltage will “step up.”  When voltage is applied to the primary coil, it magnetized the core and voltage is then induced in the secondary coil.  The wraps or turns of the primary and secondary determines the voltage transformation.  When using a step up transformer to increase voltage, the current will go down by the same proportion.   Reversible Transformers utilize no moving parts with the design simplicity of coil and core.  Reversible Transformers also enjoy a long operational life.
